“Achieve the Honorable” was defined this year by the outstanding seniors from the class of 2013 who received scholarships from the Hollywood High Alumni Association.
The HHSAA was formed over one hundred years ago with the purpose of providing scholarships to outstanding seniors. We are looking forward to awarding scholarships to deserving students for another hundred years!
Scholarship Committee Chairperson, Cilgia Halprin coordinated the interviews and party for the Achieve the Honorable Awards Ceremony on May 22, 2013 with committee members Carole Wells, Dave Moreno, and Lou Ramirez. Carole Wells read the Mission Statement and introduced the members along with Dan Doyle, President and Susan Silvestri, Treasurer who all presented awards.
The following are the recipients of the HHSAA Scholarships for 2013:
Susan Silvestri presented the Ephebian Lifetime Membership Awards to outstanding students who demonstrated high scholastic achievement and volunteered in community service.

The second – rave – review of author Ben Bryant’s new entertainment book, Three Stages, just came out on Yahoo books. While it’s not one of those exploitative celebrity books it is a sort of Hollywood book (high school, that is) and the reviewer calls it a Hollywood memoir. It does contain quite a few funny celebrity stories. Have a look at the review.
Ben’s book is available at this site and will soon be available on Amazon.
BTW: In case you missed it here’s the first review (by Rick Skye in New Sun).

Sunday, June 19th, 2013. It was the final performance of Hollywood High’s “In the Heights”. The cast and crew and parents were emotional and exhausted, but everyone had to change into their “red carpet clothes” as we were heading to the 2nd Annual Jerry Herman Awards at the Pantages immediately.
The Jerry Herman Awards is the local award ceremony for the National High School Musical Theater Awards, also known as the Jimmy’s, which are held annually on Broadway in New York City. Every year, 2 students are sent to New York to represent Los Angeles at the Jimmy’s. They participate in a week long workshop and compete for Jimmy Award (named after the owner of the Pantages Theater, James M. Nederlander). We just found out days before that the cast of “In the Heights” would be one of four schools performing numbers at the Pantages. No one really knew what to expect.
It was an amazing experience for all the students from all the 22 participating…
