Book Review and interview

The second – rave – review of author Ben Bryant’s new entertainment book, Three Stages, just came out on Yahoo books. While it’s not one of those exploitative celebrity books it is a sort of Hollywood book (high school, that is) and the reviewer calls it a Hollywood memoir. It does contain quite a few funny celebrity stories. Have a look at the review.

Ben’s book is available at this site and will soon be available on Amazon.

BTW: In case you missed it here’s the first review (by Rick Skye in New Sun).

"In the Heights" wins Best Musical at the Jerry Herman Awards

Sunday, June 19th, 2013.  It was the final performance of Hollywood High’s “In the Heights”.  The cast and crew and parents were emotional and exhausted, but everyone had to change into their “red carpet clothes” as we were heading to the 2nd Annual Jerry Herman Awards at the Pantages immediately.

The Jerry Herman Awards is the local award ceremony for the National High School Musical Theater Awards, also known as the Jimmy’s, which are held annually on Broadway in New York City.  Every year, 2 students are sent to New York to represent Los Angeles at the Jimmy’s.  They participate in a week long workshop and compete for Jimmy Award (named after the owner of the Pantages Theater, James M. Nederlander).  We  just found out days before that the cast of “In the Heights” would be one of four schools performing numbers at the Pantages.  No one really knew what to expect.

It was an amazing experience for all the students from all the 22 participating…

In memory of Eugene J. "Gene" Robidoux February 21, 2013

ATTENTION ALL HHS ALUM:

I regret once again, to have to report (albeit rather late, I'm afraid) the passing of yet another of our mentors and dear friends:

Eugene J. "Gene" Robidoux

February 21, 2013

Eugene J. "Gene” Robidoux, of North Hollywood, California died Thursday, February 21, 2013 - at Verdugo Hills Hospital. Gene had been in a semi coma for months as a result of a stroke.

Born in Manville, he was a son of the late Napoleon and Eva (Dupont) Robidoux. He was raised in Manville and attended St. James parochial school.

Mr. Robidoux was a graduate of Mount Saint Charles Academy, Class of 1954. He went on to graduate magna cum laude with his Masters and post-graduate degrees from the University of California at Los Angeles.

Gene was a veteran of the Los Angeles Public School system teaching math and computer science at Hollywood High School for over 44 years. In his earlier years Gene…

ATTENTION: HHS Class of 1977 Alum~ from Sanda Korda

I humbly regret reporting that yet another of our fold have fallen... Mary (Avon) Stuart contacted me this morning to say that Lauran Sperber (formerly Lauran Michael) passed away last night - after a long battle with cancer. She was Maid of Honor at Mary's wedding in 1980, and they had stayed close and dear friends.  Like many of us, Lauran had a great time at the 30th reunion, in Beverly Hills.  I only hope those who got to attend were able to spend time with her.
