November 14th, 2011, Los Angeles - (as photographed/from left to right) John Mejia, of the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce, David Martinon, the consul general of France in Los Angeles, David Pilcer and his wife Britney Pilcer, founders of the Open Market Place, Loren Vallin-Flores, market manager for the Open Market Place, Angela Motta, field deputy for Council President Eric Garcetti, and Tadeo Climaco, an assistant principal at Hollywood High School, participate in a ribbon cutting.
The grand opening of the Open Market Place held at Hollywood High School on Saturday, November 5th was filled with music, live performances, and fanfare. Choruses of “bonjour” and greetings capped off with kisses on both cheeks could be seen among many of the French festival goers on Saturday.
“I think it’s a wonderful thing for me and the French who are here today because it really reminds us of our country, so we feel at home,” David Martinon, Consul General of France, told the crowd during the ceremonial kick off.
David Pilcer, Open Market Place’s founder, started working in the markets in France selling perfumes when he was 18. “We want to recreate a French vintage flea market like we do in Paris” he says, “a real QUALITY event where you can discover one-of-a-kind merchandise. Our vendor selection process is tough. We want only the best!”
There were 100 vendors on hand selling everything from vintage and fashion designers clothing, antiques and collectibles, arts and crafts, handmade goods and there was plenty of food to choose from as well, including trendy Food Trucks and French pastries from Normandie Bakery.
The next Market will be held on Saturday, December 3rd, from 11 a.m. until 5 p.m., and on the first Saturday of each month continuing at Hollywood High School, located at 1521 Highland Avenue.
A portion of the proceeds are donated to the school.
