Robert D. Simmons passed away on September 28th in the Community Hospital of the Monterey Peninsula after a short illness. Robert, Rob to his friends and family, was born on May 27th 1937 in Los Angeles California. He was educated in the public schools of Los Angeles and received his BA from the University of Oregon. After college he earned a commission in the U.S. Navy and served at various posts including the Philippines. He married Laurie Knoles in June of 1961 and they moved to Palo Alto after his enlistment was completed. Rob retired from Lockheed Missiles and Space Company in Palo Alto after many years.
Rob and his wife Laurie moved full time to Monterey in 1997 after spending many years on the Peninsula as weekenders and living in Palo Alto. In retirement he was active with the Navy League of the United States, the Naval Order of the United States, the Monterey Volunteers in Policing, the Dickens Fellowship and the Maritime Museum as a Watchstander. He and Laurie would often walk on the Pacific Grove Recreation Trail, and enjoyed the scenic vistas.
